Title: one dollar’s worth of tomatillos from Mexico

Description: This photograph is a part of my 2008 series, The Value of a Dollar. During the Spring of that year, I shopped in the markets of New Mexico and purchased food items to photograph for symbolic content. Food is clearly a potent symbol of wealth, power, health, and globalization for the 21st Century. Each image in the project represents one dollar’s worth of food from around the planet, and was shot without artificial light, styling or retouching.

Title: Shipwreck

Description: From the project, Manufacturing Home, which explores the question: Can you mass-produce a sense of home? By focusing on brand new, factory-built mobile homes, I could observe and comment on the strategies employed by manufacturers to make them appealing to buyers, and examine how this may or may not line up with my own ideas of home.

Title: Untitled No. 59

Description: Images from the Borderline series employ no digital manipulation, nor are they double exposures. The image is a distillation of how I see across the boundary between inside spaces to outside and how they seamlessly coexist - interior human spaces and exterior natural environments, coinciding to create a dimensional, third reality. It is there, perched on the fine line in between, where the image exists squarely on The Borderline.

Several years ago I read a book titled Bayou Farewell that tells the story of the disappearing land all along the Louisiana coast, and chronicles the ongoing loss of wildlife, culture and industry. I stayed in houseboats deep in the bayou, saw the oak trees dying from encroaching salt water, talked to people who still lived off the land but who feared for their future. CRCL is an amazing organization that's trying to literally turn the tide in this fight for the Louisiana coast and its people. For more information: www.crcl.org
